Got a LinkSystem X2000/X3000 and need to connect it up to your TalkTalk broadband? Well here’s the how…
What you need
You’ll need the following things:
- Your talk-talk user name and password. The former is usually in the format
- A Cisco LinkSys X2000 / X3000 Wireless-N ADSL2+ router/modem (well Doh!)
- Knowledge of whether you are going to plug your phone line into the X2000 router or whether you are going to plug your existing talk-talk modem into your router via ethernet.
Most of the time you will just want to plug your phone cable straight into the X2000, in my case I needed to site my router in a completely different room to the phone socket and in this case I had to keep my old ADSL modem in place.
Okay, so the first thing you’ll need to do is get to your routers webpage; by default you do this by connecting to the router with the provided software and then browsing to the webpage (I think the default is http://192.168.1.1).
Then if you want to use your X2000 plugged directly into your phone socket select the setup tab and configure it thus:
The key items to ensure are correct are the Virtual Circuit values and of course your account name & password.
Alternatively if you want to use your X2000 via the talk-talk modem:
In both cases restart the router, and use the status web page to check whether a connection has been established.
